For You From The Word
Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished! (Luke 1:45, NIV)
For You To Think About
Women who face an unplanned pregnancy are often confused, discouraged, displaced, and lonely.
Mary was one of them. She offers some inspiring lessons for those who walk alongside women who face an unplanned pregnancy.
In Bible times, an unplanned pregnancy was so frowned upon that a single, pregnant woman faced overwhelming public humiliation, rejection, and potentially death by stoning.
Imagine Mary’s parents and their distress when they discovered she was pregnant. Joseph’s hurt and anger. Neighbors turning their back on her.
Mary could have curled up in a ball of shame and discouragement. Instead, she reached out to a friend who could support her. She traveled to visit Elizabeth, her cousin, who also faced a pregnancy she did not expect.
Elizabeth affirmed Mary’s choice to face her pregnancy with courage: “Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!” (Luke 1:45, NIV)
Whatever rejection you may experience when you discover you are pregnant can discourage you.
Don’t give into that discouragement. You can have courage to believe God has good things for you and your baby. Do you part: reach out to others who will affirm you, support you, and encourage you.
For You To Pray
Gracious Father,
Thank you for the gift of life. Speak to women who face an unplanned pregnancy. Move them to reach out to supportive friends who can encourage them.
In Jesus name, Amen.
